Engineering and computing programmes
World-class engineering and technology education for a rapidly changing technical landscape.
The School of Engineering and Technology combines creative design, technical reasoning, software development, mathematics, practical learning, and project work across three undergraduate programmes.
BEng Architectural Engineering with Construction is a bespoke programme that brings together the creative design focus of Architecture with the technical and practical foundations of Civil Engineering and Construction. It is designed for students who want to understand how buildings are imagined, designed, engineered, constructed, and delivered in the real world.
The programme combines studio-led architectural learning with core engineering and construction subjects, including design thinking, visual communication, model making, structures, materials, hydraulics, geotechnics, sustainability, building technology, and construction management. Students develop both creative and technical confidence, learning how to shape ideas while also understanding the systems, methods, and engineering principles that make buildings safe, efficient, and sustainable.
Through small-group tutorials, practical workshops, design projects, site-based learning, and industry-informed teaching, students gain the skills needed to respond to modern challenges in the built environment. Graduates will be prepared to contribute to the future of the built environment with a balanced understanding of creativity, technology, sustainability, and project delivery.
Through a range of immersive learning experiences and hands-on project work, you will develop not only the strong programming and mathematical techniques you need but also the communication, project management and teamwork skills that will set you apart from the crowd, all while developing a portfolio of work to present to potential employers.
You can choose to study pure Computer Science or one of seven cutting-edge specialisms from Virtual Reality to Artificial Intelligence. Whatever path you take, you will find a world of exciting jobs awaiting, some of which may not even exist yet.
Handling large amounts of data efficiently and quickly is becoming an increasingly important aspect of computing; businesses need to understand trends in data which will allow them to make informed and timely decisions. Artificial intelligence (AI) and the techniques it embraces provide opportunities for this to happen and to make sense of big data.
You’ll also learn how to build different types of software, from web-based systems to mobile solutions. By specialising in AI you’ll develop a range of techniques which can be applied in software to solve complex problems. AI is inherent in modern games, financial trading systems and medical systems and enhances the software solutions in each of these areas.
