Official BIU procedure

How to raise a student complaint

BIU is committed to providing a supportive environment where students can raise concerns and receive a fair and timely response. The Student Support Team is responsible for managing the procedure.

Email Student Complaints

  1. Stage 1 — Informal ResolutionFirst discuss your concern with the relevant lecturer or staff member.
  2. Stage 2 — Student Support ReviewIf it remains unresolved, the Head of Student Support investigates the complaint and responds.
  3. Stage 3 — Head of School ReviewIf the matter is still unresolved, it is escalated to the relevant Head of School for further review.
  4. Stage 4 — Vice Chancellor ReviewThe Vice Chancellor provides the final internal review.

BIU recognises that, within the local cultural context, students and parents may approach senior leaders directly. These concerns are respected but are managed through the formal complaints process to ensure fairness, consistency, and proper recording.

Examples of complaints: assessment feedback, timetable arrangements, academic support requests, and concerns raised by students or parents. All complaints and outcomes are recorded and reviewed to support continuous improvement.

This procedure applies to all BIU academic and student support services and is available through student information channels. Consult the Student Handbook for related regulations and appeals guidance.

Policies & Procedure

Formal regulations governing attendance, mitigating circumstances, tuition fees and refunds, academic progression, data protection, complaints, and appeals are detailed in the BIU Student Handbook.

This page outlines the services Student Support Services provides. The Handbook contains the official rules and administrative procedures. If any information is inconsistent with official policy, the Student Handbook takes precedence.
